A Good Person (2023)

A Moving Tale of Grief and Redemption

A thought-provoking movie, A GOOD PERSON, follows the story of Allison (Florence Pugh), a youthful woman grappling with addiction and self-reproach after causing a deadly accident that took her fiancé’s siblings’ lives. Morgan Freeman plays Daniel, her potential father-in-law, who struggles with despair and alcoholism. The two form an improbable connection as they attempt to overcome their hardships.

The film can seem slightly overly dramatic at times; nevertheless, I thoroughly relished it due to the spectacular performances by both Pugh and Freeman in portraying their characters’ emotions of grief and hopelessness. Zach Braff, both the director and screenwriter of the film, excels in generating relatable yet genuine conversations with well-crafted characters. The motion picture tackles heavy themes such as addiction, guilt, grief, forgiveness, and redemption that can be overwhelming but still provide a glimmer of hope.

Several scenes may seem intense, and the storyline might feel too fabricated. However, investing emotions into each character’s journey sets this movie apart from others by making it an engaging and thought-provoking experience.

I strongly suggest you watch A GOOD PERSON for anyone seeking a compelling performance and an emotional narrative. The acting is phenomenal, and the storyline will tug at your heartstrings.

Rating: 4 out of 5.
