BOOK CLUB (2018)

Book ClubFour lifelong friends have their lives forever changed after reading 50 Shades of Grey in their monthly book club.

Apart from being an advert for the 50 Shades of Gray series of books, the script is the worst thing about this movie. The jokes are often lame, obvious, and outdated. There are some genuinely funny moments and lines, mostly involving Candice Bergen’s character. Bergen and the rest of the veteran cast manage to squeeze what they can from the lazy script. And there are a few worthwhile messages about continuing to live life as we get older — but it doesn’t manage to say much to those who don’t have the means to live that life like these well-off women do. Overall, I found this one pedestrian, condescending and superficial.
