Crimes of the Future (2022)

CRIMES OF THE FUTURE is a fascinating movie that explores the idea of humans adapting to a synthetic environment. The film follows Saul Tenser, a celebrity performance artist, as he publicly displays the metamorphosis of his organs in avant-garde performances. His partner Caprice is also featured prominently in the film, and together they offer a unique and insightful perspective on the effects of this new world on human beings.

CRIMES OF THE FUTURE is directed by David Cronenberg who has previously brought us such films as VIDEODROME and THE FLY. As with those films, CRIMES OF THE FUTURE is not for the faint of heart. There is strong, disturbing violence, graphic nudity, and sexuality.

Viggo Mortenson stars as Saul Tenser and he gives a brave and compelling performance. He is joined by a strong supporting cast, including Léa Seydoux as Caprice. The dialogue is sharp, and the film is visually stunning. Special effects are used sparingly but to significant effect. The film combines elements of science fiction and horror to create a unique and memorable experience.

CRIMES OF THE FUTURE does have its flaws. The plot is occasionally confusing, and the film feels too long at times. However, these are minor complaints in what is otherwise a thought-provoking and visually arresting film.

CRIMES OF THE FUTURE will not be for everyone but those who appreciate thought-provoking science fiction and can withstand some confronting images will be rewarded with a thought-provoking and unique film experience.
