Eternals (2021)

The Eternals are a team of ancient aliens who have been living on Earth in secret for thousands of years. When an unexpected tragedy forces them out of the shadows, they are forced to reunite against mankind’s most ancient enemy, the Deviants.

ETERNALS is a very average superhero movie from the prolific Marvel universe. There is little, if anything, outstanding. The diversity of the cast and characters is excellent, there are a few story elements that are fresh but, at just over 2½ hours if feels long and drawn out, although the final act picks up significantly. There are occasional glimmers of humour, but they are few and far between and feel as though they’re out of step with the tone of the rest of the movie. The visual effects are well done, and the cinematography is good, but ETERNALS doesn’t live up to the standard of most Marvel’s output despite some interesting themes. I’d recommend it only if you are a diehard Marvel fan.

Rating: 3 out of 5.
