FIGHTING WITH MY FAMILY (2019)
Born into a tight-knit wrestling family, Paige and her brother Zak are ecstatic when they get the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to try out for the WWE. But when only Paige earns a spot in the competitive training program, she must leave her loved ones behind and face this new cutthroat world alone. Paige’s journey pushes her to dig deep and ultimately prove to the world that what makes her different is the very thing that can make her a star.—
A delightful true story authenticated by the video clips during the end credits. Florence Pugh is outstanding as Paige and the rest of the supporting cast are excellent. The story is fresh and it’s great to see a story that has all of the women in the story such strong characters — even those that are usually seen as stereotypes. In fact, there are moments in the film when one’s own stereotyping is called into question. The humour is spot on and the wrestling scenes are well choreographed (and brought back memories of me watching such things on TV with my Dad when I was young — although back then it was primarily men who did the wrestling). A fun story even for those who are not wrestling fans — with some very positive themes.
