Javier Cámarapace, who plays Héctor Abad Gómezdialogue, gives a riveting performance as the father who is gunned down in cold blood. His final words to his son, “Forgive them, they know not what they do,” are sure to resonate with viewers long after the movie has ended. Nicolás Reyes Cano, who portrays the young son, is also excellent in his role. The development of all the characters is handled very effectively. and the movie flows smoothly from beginning to end.
Despite the movie’s heavy themes, there’s lots of good humour as well, which helps to lighten the mood. The soundtrack is also exceptionally good, with a mix of traditional Colombian music and more modern tunes. The cinematography and reproduction of the period are both well done. Fernando Trueba directs the movie with a steady hand, ensuring that the story is told in an engaging and moving way, although it does, at times, feel a little too long.
FORGOTTEN WE’LL BE is a powerful movie that tells an important story. It is very well made and features some great performances. However, its length and heavy subject matter mean that it may not be a movie for everyone.
