Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023)

James Gunn concludes an enjoyable trilogy with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, which sees Chris Pratt’s character Peter Quill leading our ragtag group again against new foes led by The High Evolutionary, who has different uses in mind for his most prized experiment: Rocket. Expect old faces and rivalries as we proceed through stunning plot twists blending humour alongside thrilling action scenes but perhaps comparatively less comedic moments than before; all characters have ample opportunity for growth, especially Rocket, whose backstory steals the show. Gunn cleverly honours past films with throwbacks to memorable music, inside jokes, and themes that made these movies resonate with fans.

The film’s cutting-edge visual effects and beautifully crafted soundtrack complete this satisfying finale experience. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 takes audiences on another wild and wacky ride back to space – but does it soar as high as its predecessors? While many enjoyable moments and heartwarming character beats are scattered throughout this movie, its lengthy runtime sometimes feels like treading water more than swimming forward. Additionally, despite being teased as a formidable foe, the main villain ultimately comes across as forgettable with flimsy motivations that never make sense. Although there are some clever nods to past entries in this cinematic universe present here these references may intimidate newer viewers by relying on their existing knowledge instead of establishing connections organically.

And while everything wraps up by the end credits roll, it concludes too easily without enough weight given to certain plot threads. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 is a worthwhile addition to the trilogy – but don’t expect anything earth-shattering from its adventure beyond our stratosphere.

  1. Good review! I personally did like the ending. I get what you are saying because it doesn’t fully conclude a lot of the characters to its fullest extent and leaves the door open for more character evolution arcs. However, I do like the idea how it concludes the story arc for the Guardians trilogy and their time together. What will become of them? It’s hard to say. Hopefully, these characters will eventually get developed further in the future.

    • Yes. It’ll be interesting to see where characters head to next. I want to see more of Rocket!!
