Hatching (2022)
You probably know of a parent who places unrealistic expectations on a child. The brilliant horror movie by Finnish director, Hanna Bergholm, explores this theme and the trauma of this approach can have on a child.
Hatching (2022) tells the story of 12-year-old Tinja who is desperate to please her mother. One night, she finds a strange egg and brings it home to care for. What hatches is beyond belief.
As the story unfolds, the audience is taken on a journey of suspense, fear, and hope. I can’t tell you much more about the plot because it would spoil the movie. In fact, the less you know about the movie going in, the better. Hatching is a unique voice in the horror genre. The director, Hanna Bergholm, uses beautiful and terrifying visuals to create a film that is both fantasy and horror. The length of the film is perfect, and the ending will leave you both satisfied and disturbed.
This is a movie that I recommend if you are looking for something different in the horror genre. It is a intelligent movie with a unique voice. The parental expectations of children will be relatable to many, and the suspense and fear will keep you on the edge of your seat.
If you love intelligent horror, then Hatching is a must-watch.
