Men (2022)

MEN is a surrealist horror movie that explores some women’s view of men following traumatic experiences with them. MEN is the story of Harper (Jessie Buckley) who, after a personal tragedy, goes to stay in the English countryside to escape. Soon after her arrival, however, she begins to feel as if someone or something from the nearby woods is stalking her. As her fear grows, she realizes that the entity may be connected to her own dark past and fears.

MEN is a well-crafted film that slowly builds tension and dread, leading to a truly harrowing climax. The performances are excellent, particularly Buckley’s, who conveys both Harper’s vulnerability and strength. The movie also features some beautifully surreal visuals that add to the atmosphere of unease.

Alex Garland, who brought us the excellent Ex Machina, has again created a thought-provoking and deeply unsettling film that will stay with you long after the credits have rolled.

Rating: 4 out of 5.
