—
A beautiful, tender, subtle, authentic drama seen through the eyes of a child as she struggles with grief, change, and confusion following the death of her Mum. The child actors, Laia Artigas and Paula Robles are stunningly natural in their roles. Their performances are so good that one could be forgiven for thinking that we were watching a documentary. There is a very minimal narrative; the movie is more character driven than story driven and the details of what has happened to Frida are drip-fed to us so subtly that unless you remain focused you may miss them. SUMMER 1993 is beautifully and lovingly directed and is a wonderful exploration of childhood grief.
