UPGRADE
A brutal mugging leaves Grey Trace paralysed in the hospital and his beloved wife dead. A billionaire inventor soon offers Trace a cure — an artificial intelligence implant called STEM that will enhance his body. Now able to walk, Grey finds that he also has superhuman strength and agility — skills he uses to seek revenge against the thugs who destroyed his life.

A very entertaining and thought-provoking sci-fi that taps into our fears about the way in which artificial intelligence-based technology integrates with humans. Logan Marshall-Green (The Invitation) does an excellent job of portraying Grey Trace. I heard an interview with the writer-director, Leigh Whannell, who described how challenging the acting for Marshall-Green’s role was. Leigh Whannell, along with James Wan, brought us the brilliant SAW movie and the writing for UPGRADE is just as good. The story, set in the very near future, is quite believable and has some great twists along with the action, thrills, humour, and quite a bit of bloody violence. Great, solid, hi-tech, story-telling.
