Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021)

After finding a host body in investigative reporter Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy), the alien symbiote must face a new enemy, Carnage, the alter ego of serial killer Cletus Kasady (Woody Harrelson).

If you’ve seen the first of the Venom movies, you may be looking forward to the mix of humour and action in the second outing, VENOM: LET THERE BE CARNAGE. But this much shorter movie (only 1hr 37m long!) is much lighter on humour, similar level of action, and lots and lots of violence. I suppose that’s to be expected given the subtitle of the movie is “Let There Be Carnage”.
I didn’t think this sequel was as good as the first one. The premise of Venom living inside Eddie Brock and dominating his life is a bit tired with little innovation from the first movie. The introduction of Carnage, another symbiote, allows for these to super aliens to give us fight scenes between him and Venom we didn’t have in the first one. The story primarily capitalises on pointless violence which serves a superficial plot.
Michelle Williams, who plays Eddie Brock’s ex-love interest, is given little to do and Cletus Kasady is a cliched villain. Overall, VENOM: LET THERE BE CARNAGE is an unoriginal, loud, violent, unfunny waste of time.
I’d say, if you are a fan of Venom, then check the movie out. Otherwise, give it a miss.
