Black Widow (2021)
Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson), also known as Black Widow, confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger.
We’ve been waiting for a long time to see BLACK WIDOW have her own movie and, at last, it is here. And it is the best Marvel movie for a while! Led by a powerful performance by Scarlett Johansson, and teamed with Florence Pugh (Midsommer, Little Women), and cast of almost all women, BLACK WIDOW explores some deep, powerful, and timely themes about recovering from trauma, family relationships, the oppression of women, and the force for good when women embrace their power and work together to overcome patriarchy of the worst kind.
Along with the themes comes a satisfyingly rich story, lots of action, and witty dialogue. The fight scenes have an authentic feel to them, and the cinematography is great as we travel to various locations. Whoever made the decision to employ Cate Shortland as director (Berlin Syndrome, Lore) was brilliant! She brings a freshness to this movie that is sorely needed in the unending releases by Marvel. BLACK WIDOW is a smart movie! Rush out to see it!
