In the midst of a divorce, Miriam Besson decides to ask for exclusive custody to her son, in order to protect him from a father that she is accusing of violence. The judge-in-charge of the file grants a shared custody to the father whom it considers abused. An excellent exploration of the way in which violence, separation, and the fight over the custody of a child can wreak havoc on all parties. CUSTODY starts from the moment that Miriam and her husband appear before a judge to present their cases for the custody of their child. Miriam is accusing the father of violence. The film then slowly ramps up the tension until an explosive, shocking ending. The acting is very good and the story is told with restraint and feels authentic. Not always easy to watch but, to me, it is one of the movies that handles the theme more sensitively, honestly, and powerfully than most others.
